IDA has partnered with other animal protection organizations to file the Mandatory Alternatives Petition (MAP) asking the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to require the use of scientifically proven drug testing methods that replace the use of animals.

The organizations that form the MAP coalition, along with the physicians, scientists, and other experts who have signed the Petition know that the continued use of animal tests results in the approval of dangerous and deadly drugs.

Europe is ahead of the U.S. in replacing clumsy, cruel animal tests with sophisticated and humane methods. EU law states that animal tests may not be used when validated non-animal alternatives are available. We have no such law in the U.S., but the FDA has the authority to accomplish much the same thing in the areas of drug and device testing. The formal petition filed by IDA and others is aimed at encouraging the FDA to move in that direction.
